Save Money on Groceries (Without Coupons)
The way this year is flying, who has time for couponing?
These practical money saving grocery tips will help you to save money on groceries. Without looking for coupons.
1. Plan meals ahead of time. Take a few hours each week to plan out your meals for the upcoming week, and create a grocery list of all the items you need. Planning your meals ahead of time will help you to avoid overspending and impulse buys.
2. Buy in bulk. If you have the space in your home try to buy in bulk, you’ll usually save money in the long run. Consider buying items like rice, flour, and beans that can be used in a variety of recipes. Also, buy things that your family already typically uses not things that you wish to use because sometimes those items can go unused and lead to food waste as well as wasted money.
3. Cook from scratch. Preparing meals from scratch is usually cheaper than buying pre-made meals. Not only will you save money, but you'll also know exactly what is going into your meals.
4. Buy in season. Fruits and veggies that are in season are usually cheaper than out-of-season produce.
5. Buy frozen fruits and veggies. Frozen fruits and veggies are often cheaper than the fresh alternatives, and they can last for months in the freezer.
6. Buy generic. Generic items are usually cheaper than name-brand items and they are often just as good!
7. Limit processed foods. Processed foods are often more expensive than whole foods, and they can be unhealthy.
8. Make double batches of food. Making a double batch of food allows you to freeze a meal for a later time and reduces the amount of time you spend cooking each week. Opening more time to be with your loved ones or even to find more way to save/make money.
9. Use cheaper cuts of meat. If you eat meat, use cheaper types of meats. See what meat is on sale at your local super market and make a menu based on those.
10. Go Meatless. Meat can be one of the most expensive items in the grocery store, so look for recipes that don’t require meat. Beans, lentils, tofu and eggs are all good sources of protein and just a few examples of things to use in lieu of meat. Even if it’s just once or twice a week, this can significantly help to reduce the grocery budget.
