Low Effort Thanksgiving Traditions To Start Today

Thanksgiving celebrations can be quite a big ordeal.

So many dishes into one single night. So many tings to do, (and yet here I am writing this blog post lol). There is so much to do that sometimes, things can fall through the cracks. Things such as traditions. Traditions are super important and special. They strengthen the family bond and make our families special and unique. Today I wanted to share some quick low effort traditions we can start today. We can put these in place before the dinner is even set and they are so quick we will not burn the potatoes! Maybe these can become some special traditions in your home.

Fun last minute Thanksgiving traditions you can use starting today:

  1. Decorate the tree- If you celebrate Christmas, and use a reusable tree, after dinner will be the perfect time to set it up and decorate it. Think about it, the family is already gathered together so we won’t have to rally them up. It will also be a cute little way to kick of the holiday season. Play some holiday music for some added holiday fun and cheer.

  2. Thanksgiving walk - Not ready for the tree, don’t celebrate Christmas, or already have your tree out? Then this one is perfect for you. After the big, delicious Thanksgiving dinner, gather up your family and go for a Thanksgiving walk. It can be in the neighborhood or in a park, or even in a hiking trail. It should be a bonding activity for our families that keep our heart healthy and blood flowing. Not too mention burn of some of those extra calories while we are at it.

  3. Share your gratefulness - This one is an oldie but a goodie. There must be a reason why it has been around for so long. It’s just too good! This one let’s us share with our family what we are grateful for and I’m sure they will be so touched to hear it. This one could be an emotional one but in a good way.

  4. Make up a story- For this one the whole family will make up a story but here is the catch, only one word or sentence (depending on how big your family is ) per person. Everyone can say whatever they wish to keep the story going and have a hilarious time. Be carefuwhile eating though as this one is just too funny, you are bound to be laughing all dinner long.

  5. Hide the treat - Put a quick treat such as a chocolate and hide it on one of the side dishes that everyone will enjoy. (Please be mindful of allergies or dietary preferences). Whoever finds the treat in there food gets a get out of doing the dishes free card. Or some other special prize that makes sense for your family. Also be mindful of little ones as they may not be expecting the treat and we don’t want to have any accidents. Maybe serve their portion before hiding the treat. This one is a unique one that can lead to some wonderful memories.

That was a quick little guide with some traditions that you can implement today even before dinner is serve. Feel free to keep a list and add your owns. Traditions can help family life to be even sweeter and our little ones will take the memories (and some of the traditions) with them as they grow up and out of the home. So make it playful, make it fun and make them last. May you and your family have a very happy Thanksgiving. I pray it is a fantastic one. And may we give thanks not just today, but always. 💛
