7 Practical Steps to Keep a Clean and Tidy Home

We all want to feel comfortable when we come home from a long day.

Unfortunately, keeping your home clean and organized can be a real challenge. Here are some tips to help you make your home a clean and comfortable space for you and your family.

1. Make the bed every morning.  Making the bed will help us start the day off right and make our bedrooms look tidy. Not only that, but  it will also help us be more productive as we would have got something done for the day and that feeling will carry over to everything else that we do.

2. Set aside 15 minutes of each day to do a quick clean. Spend 15 minutes tidying up your living room, kitchen, or any other room in your home. If you use the flylady system like I do, there are structural things we do each day for 15 minutes that cause our homemaking experience to be a breeze.

3. Establish an organized cleaning routine and stick to it. Make a list of tasks that need to be done each week and assign them to each day. Pick an existing plan (such as the flylady system) or make up your own. The point is to make it a habit so it gets easier to do each and every day.

4. Declutter and deep clean your home. Take some time each month to declutter and deep clean your home. This will help you keep it organized and make it easier to clean in the future. To make things even easier to maintain, practice the one in one out rule. Every time we get something new, let’s donate a similar item. That way, we don’t re-clutter our homes.

5. Get the whole family involved. Assign household tasks to each family member so that everyone is contributing and helping keep the home clean. At the very least, they can help to clean up after dinner. If you eat dinner as a family ( which you can read all about why we should do this here), then you already have everyone all together thus making it easier to delegate tasks. Take turns selecting music to make this a fun and bonding family activity.

6. Put your home to bed each evening. It is such a good feeling to wake up to a clean slate of a home. Nice and tidy and ready for us the next day. However, the opposite is also true. No matter how tired we are the night before, let’s spare 5 to 15 minutes tidying up our place. That way, when we wake up in the morning we will be so happy we did. Bonus if you use the previous tip and have everyone contribute. If you have no oe to help, play some music and make it a cleaning dance party.

7. Enjoy it. Above all else, enjoy being a homemaker. It’s an incredibly rewarding experience to be able to be a full time homemaker. So no matter how tough it gets at times, doing the same thing day in and day out for it to get destroyed hours or sometimes minutes late. No matter what,  the rewards are well worth the effort.

By following these tips, you can make your home a clean and comfortable place. It may take some time and effort to get there, but the reward of having a tidy and organized home is well worth it.
